Self Reflection

To be honest, coming into this course a little late made me feel a little rushed to catch up. I picked my pseudonym before my beat and I am not really sure if it completely fits my beat.

As I mentioned in my first post, finding a beat was tough for me. With a ticking clock I didn’t really know exactly what I wanted to dive into and I spontaneously picked the dating world - something I was interested in but not in love with.

I found myself struggling a little, week by week, because I didnt rally know what to write about. Did my audience want to know what was currently happening in the dating world? Did they want tips and tricks? Where they sick of hearing about dating life? I really didn’t know but I guess that is what made researching this topic so interesting.

If I was to do this again, I do think I would choose another beat. I love to bake, and my family has always teased me about opening my own bake shop one day but I never thought of all the possibilities until I continuously read Ava Elise’sblog. Moving going is one of my favorite hobbies - the experience of going out and seeing a film for the first time in a theater makes the whole adventure more thrilling. So reading Fran Ford Coca Cola’s blog really sparked some interests to me. Even though these are only two of the many blogs from this course, I realized that there are so many other possibilities I could have dived into that would have possibly fit myself better.

However as a young adult, looking further into my beat helped me understand the dating world a little more. I found places to go, new ways to connect and even found myself listening to the safety tips of dating.

I think one idea I tried to put into my blog was just being true to one’s self. Whether it was knowing when things weren’t safe or being confident in ones’ personality, I wanted my readers to understand love is found when showing their true identity.

One of my favorite pieces that I wrote so far is “What My BFF’s Forgot To Tell Me.” I tried to captivate my audience by creating a fun list of things most people forget on first dates.

Even though I feel my posts aren’t completely polished, as I do love the idea of continuing to add and update each draft, I do feel that my voice is clear and successful. My next turn will be to try to put more first hand experiences in my blog. People want to really connect with the writer, and I feel that this type of blog can really make connections that’ll help further it along.

One thing I really took away from this course aside from the social media side was critiquing. I have always asked peers or professors to read important pieces of work before submitting because I want to find the best way to express my ideas and thoughts.

Understanding how to better critique others work is something that will be very beneficial to my future. Pointing sections out and giving personal suggesting is very helpful and really expresses to the author you’re trying to understand their views.

Overall I think everyone in this course has been able to express themselves in ways that we were not sure was feasible. Social media has become such a prominent source in people’s lives today but understanding how to truly use these platforms is so beneficial to each of our future.
