Even though online dating is becoming more and more popular, it has only helped to corrupt our world.
With a growing number of dating apps, many people have turned to their smartphones and social media platforms to interact with one another - but what happened to face-to-face communication?
I will be the first to admit that I always have my phone on me. Whether I am checking emails, texting my friends, or checking social media - my phone is most likely in my hand. Many people are like this, and it has taken a toll on how we interact with one another.
People outsource their personal relationships by creating spreadsheets and algorithms that can hack the online dating scene and eliminate actual interactions. For instance, Amy Webb, spoke about how she did this and found her husband.
“But is this even fair?"
What happened to the days where boys rung the doorbell to pick up a girl for a date? Or the times people had to use a landline to even contact their significant other?
Online dating has taken away from the sentimental and genuine ways of dating. There are numerous dating platforms you can use, but many seem to be senseless. On Tinder you decided whether or not you want to talk to a person based on their looks. Coffee meets Bagel only allows you to chat via app for 8 days, (is that enough time?). And on most apps, many people fall ‘in love’ without even physically meeting each other.
Some may say it is easier to date now that it is at the touch of their finger but wouldn't you rather have a love story that starts from an actual in-person conversation rather than a Tinder swipe?
Let's change the dating scene back to one where love letters are written by hand (not text), flowers are brought to one's porch (instead of sent with emoji), and a night out to the movies is a treat (not just Netflix-and-chill).
